SPARKS and FLARES specifications
SPARKS: our top-most brand
Trusted by thousands of customers. The highest solids for the most colour per kilogram.
| Colour | pH | Viscosity (sec) | Solids % |
|---|---|---|---|
| Milky White | 8 | 22 | 68 ± 2% |
| Black | 8-9 | 90 | 41 ± 2% |
| Yellow | 8 | 23 | 40 ± 2% |
| Red | 8 | 55 | 43 ± 2% |
| Blue | 9-10 | 18 | 49 ± 2% |

FLARES: for the cost-conscious buyer
Same raw material. Same viscosity control. Lower solids, lower price per kilogram.
| Colour | pH | Viscosity (sec) | Solids % |
|---|---|---|---|
| Milky White | 8 | 22 | 60 ± 2% |
| Black | 8-9 | 90 | 33 ± 2% |
| Yellow | 8 | 23 | 32 ± 2% |
| Red | 8 | 55 | 35 ± 2% |
| Blue | 9-10 | 18 | 41 ± 2% |
| Green | 8 | 25 | 44 ± 2% |
| Orange | 8 | 24 | 42 ± 2% |
| Violet | 8-9 | 36 | 26 ± 2% |
Brown, matched to your sample
Brown packaging tape shades are made to each customer’s sample in both ranges. Typical spec: pH 8.5, viscosity min. 25 sec, solids 60 ± 2%. We match more than 200 pastes and inks every year.
More per kg. Less per coated metre.
A higher solids percentage means a smaller dose delivers the same opacity and colour per square metre of tape. The paste costs more per kilogram, but the cost per square metre coated comes out lower, with fewer rejections from batch-to-batch drift. Take a trial batch and run the dosage comparison against your current paste.
How to start
Converters & Corporates
Qualify us as a second source on one colour. We supply a trial batch with a certificate of analysis and a retained sample. Our plant records are open to audit.
Established Manufacturers
See the cost-in-use math against your current paste, then take a trial batch and run your own dosage comparison before you decide.
New & Small Businesses
Start with small trial packs, a dosage chart and direct technical support over WhatsApp. No minimum order is required to get going.
Quality you can audit
- Every batch tested for pH, viscosity and solids percentage
- Certificate of analysis with every order, including trial batches
- Retained sample kept for every batch, and plant records open to customer audit
- Same pigment sources since 1998. We do not switch vendors to chase price.

Frequently asked questions
What is pigment paste for BOPP tape?
Pigment paste is a concentrated, ready-to-use pigment dispersion that BOPP tape manufacturers add to their coating to make coloured tape: brown, milky white, black, red, blue, green, yellow, orange and violet. Polychem has manufactured pigment paste specially for BOPP tape coating since 1998.
Who makes pigment paste for BOPP tape in India?
Polychem & Allied Products, based in Khera Kalan, New Delhi, has manufactured pigment paste specially for BOPP tape coating since 1998 and was the first company in India to develop it. It sells two ranges, SPARKS and FLARES, with a production capacity of 500 MTA.
What is the difference between SPARKS and FLARES pigment paste?
SPARKS is Polychem’s top-most pigment paste brand, trusted by thousands of customers, with the higher solids content (for example milky white at 68 ± 2% solids). FLARES is the newer range for cost-conscious buyers: same raw material and same viscosity control, with lower solids (milky white at 60 ± 2%).
Which colours are available?
Milky white, black, yellow, red, blue, green, orange and violet in both SPARKS and FLARES, plus brown, which is manufactured to match each customer’s sample.
Can you match a brown tape shade to my sample?
Yes. Brown is made to each customer’s sample in both ranges (typical spec: pH 8.5, viscosity min. 25 sec, solids 60 ± 2%). Polychem matches more than 200 pigment pastes and inks every year.
Why is a higher-solids paste cheaper in use?
A higher solids percentage means a smaller dose gives the same opacity and colour per square metre. The paste costs more per kilogram, but the cost per square metre of coated tape comes out lower, with fewer rejections from batch-to-batch drift.
Can I get a trial batch before ordering?
Yes. Every trial batch ships with a certificate of analysis. Small businesses can start with small trial packs and a dosage chart, with no minimum order.
How is quality controlled?
Every batch is tested for pH, viscosity (in seconds) and solids percentage, and ships with a certificate of analysis. A retained sample is kept and plant records are open to customer audit.
Do you also supply printing inks for BOPP tape?
Yes. Polychem distributes hubergroup printing inks, including Tapepack BOPP ink for rotogravure reverse printing on BOPP film and GR Xtop inks for high-temperature and extrusion tape.
